There has been an ongoing battle in the body of Christ whether women are allowed to preach the word of God. For the past decades various men of God have debated over this controversial subject. In an episode of “Ask Andrew”, well renowned preacher, Andrew Wommack founder of the Andrew Wommack Ministries answered the theological debate: “Can women preach or serve as pastors?”
Andrew Wommack stated that women should be allowed to preach and take up ministerial roles. He has maintained his stance in support of his claims challenging the conservative interpretations. He claims that the body of Christ has kept women in bondage by misinterpreting 1 Timothy 2:11-12, “Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence” He states that women should be allowed to preach and perform ministerial roles. Andrew Wommack claims that the word ‘man’ being referred to is the same ‘man’ referenced in 1 Corinthians chapter 7 of women being in subjection to their husbands as the law says. Andrew Wommack argues that the law never disapproved of women teaching the word of God and we also find women of God in the law, for example, Prophetess Mirriam, Prophetess Deborah. He states that 1 Timothy 2 : 11-12 was referring to Adam and Eve and how Eve should have in full subjection to her husband and not women in general taking a stance to be under men.
