Pray for Serbia: Evangelicals Respond to Violence and Political Turmoil

Serbia is facing a deepening political and social crisis as anti-government protests continue to erupt across the nation. Sparked by allegations of corruption and calls for greater accountability, the unrest has escalated into clashes, injuries, and growing fears of instability.

In the midst of this turmoil, the Evangelical Alliance of Serbia has issued a public call to prayer, urging Christians around the world to stand in solidarity with the nation. Their statement emphasizes the need for fasting, prayer, and repentance—not only for Serbia’s leaders but for the entire society.

The protests, which have drawn thousands to the streets of Belgrade and other cities, highlight frustration with what many describe as long-standing issues of government mismanagement, corruption, and lack of transparency. For church leaders, however, the concern goes beyond politics: they warn of the growing risk of violence and division spiraling into something far worse.

Amidst fear of escalation, Serbian evangelicals are urging Christians worldwide to intercede for:

  • Peaceful resolution of protests without further bloodshed.
  • Wisdom for government leaders to make just and fair decisions.
  • Strength for churches to be a light of hope in a time of national turmoil.
  • Unity among people across social, political, and ethnic lines.

The situation has already begun drawing international attention, and many believe that the prayers of the global church could play a vital role in what happens next.

While Serbia’s future remains uncertain, one thing is clear: in the words of its evangelical leaders, “The destiny of our nation cannot be healed by politics alone—it must begin with God’s mercy.”
